Bangladesh Election 2026: Incidents of violence have surfaced during the general elections in Bangladesh. Amid voting, there is news of crude bombs exploding at two different polling booths, while a BNP leader died following a clash at another polling center.
According to media reports, The Daily Star reported that a crude bomb exploded at a polling center in Gopalganj. Meanwhile, according to the Dhaka Tribune, a similar blast occurred at a polling booth in Munshiganj.
Apart from this, a scuffle broke out at the Alia Madrasa polling booth in Khulna Sadar after a dispute escalated between two groups. During this, a BNP leader named Mohibuzzaman Kochi passed away. Local BNP leaders allege that his condition deteriorated after being pushed, following which this incident occurred.
Explosion at polling center in Gopalganj, three injured
Two personnel of the paramilitary force Ansar and a 13-year-old girl were injured in a crude bomb explosion during voting in Gopalganj, Bangladesh. According to The Daily Star report, Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sarwar Hossain stated that this explosion occurred around 9 AM at the Reshma International School polling center in the Nichupara area.
According to officials, the injured Ansar personnel have been identified as Sukanto Majumdar and Jamal Molla, while the third injured girl has been named Amena Khanam. Police said that all three sustained minor injuries.
Polling booth Presiding Officer Zahirul Islam stated that the sound of the explosion was loud, but the situation was immediately brought under control, and the voting process was not affected. He mentioned that 198 votes were cast at the center in the first two hours of voting. Security has been increased in the area following the incident.
Crude bomb explosion at polling center in Munshiganj
According to a Dhaka Tribune report, an incident of a crude bomb exploding has come to light at the Makhati Gurucharan High School polling center in Mollakandi Union of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. Munshiganj Sadar Police Station in-charge Mohammad Mominul Islam stated that the explosion occurred around 11 AM.
According to the police, earlier around 10 AM, a clash took place between supporters of BNP-backed candidate Kamruzzaman and independent candidate Mohiuddin. However, police have not yet confirmed any injuries.
BNP leader dies after clash in Khulna
According to a BBC Bangla report, BNP leader Mohibuzzaman Kochi died following a clash and scuffle between two groups at the Alia Madrasa polling center in Khulna Sadar. The incident reportedly happened on Thursday morning.
Local BNP leaders allege that his health deteriorated after being pushed. Mohibuzzaman Kochi had served as the former office secretary of Khulna Metropolitan BNP.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan confirmed the incident in conversation with BBC Bangla. According to him, an argument took place between both sides over seeking votes in the morning. During this, his health deteriorated. Later he was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
