Will Bora join BJP?
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave hints through a post on social media platform X that Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Bora might soon turn towards the BJP. In his post, he wrote that Bhupen Bora has been the last major Hindu leader to emerge from the grassroots level in Assam Congress. He also mentioned that on Bora’s invitation, he would meet him in the evening. The Chief Minister also expressed the wish that Bora joins the BJP family to further strengthen the resolve to serve the nation and Assam.
Bhupen Bora has been a prominent face in Assam politics. He resigned from the Congress party on February 16, 2026. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Bhupen Bora may soon formally join the BJP. Bhupen Bora remained the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) from the year 2021 to 2025. Apart from this, he has been elected MLA twice from the Bihpuria assembly seat.

Bhupen Kumar Bora has also been associated with the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He served as Secretary in the AICC and also handled the responsibility of Parliamentary Secretary in the Assam government. Due to feeling neglected in the party and being dissatisfied with the functioning of the organization, he decided to end his relationship with Congress spanning several years.

Bhupen Bora was an MLA from the year 2006 to 2016. During his tenure, he played an active role in the assembly, for which he was also honored with the Best MLA Award. Due to strong public relations and activism in his area, he is considered to have a good hold and popularity among the locals.
