The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 was played on March 8 between India national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team at Narendra Modi Stadium. In this match, Team India performed brilliantly, securing a 96-run victory and claiming the T20 World Cup title for the third time.

After the championship win, Indian players appeared very excited on the field. During the celebrations, many players held the tricolor and celebrated the joy of victory in their own style.

However, amidst these celebrations, a controversy involving Hardik Pandya has also surfaced. According to reports, a complaint has been registered against him at Pune’s Shivajinagar Police Station, alleging that the tricolor was disrespected during the celebrations. The local police have registered the complaint regarding the matter.

Complainant Demands Action

Lawyer Wajed Khan has filed a complaint against Hardik Pandya at Pune’s Shivajinagar Police Station. The complaint alleges that during the T20 World Cup victory celebrations, Pandya had wrapped the tricolor around his body and was dancing with his girlfriend at the same time.

The complainant told news agency ANI that according to Section 2 of the National Flag Act 1971, it is every citizen’s responsibility to respect the national flag. He alleges that during the celebrations, Hardik Pandya was seen lying with his girlfriend, draped in the tricolor, which according to him, constitutes disrespect to the national flag.

Wajed Khan stated that when he went to Shivajinagar Police Station to file the complaint, the police initially said that the incident did not occur there. To this, he argued that the national flag is a symbol of the entire country, and therefore, a complaint regarding this matter can be filed anywhere. After this, the police registered his complaint and he was also given a copy of it.
