The Government of India has rejected reports in foreign media regarding the Air India plane crash that took place in Ahmedabad last year. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol clarified that Indian agencies are investigating the matter and they should be allowed to do their work. He stated that the country should trust its own investigation agencies rather than unverified reports from external sources.
In fact, a news report published in an Italian newspaper claimed that investigation agencies held Air India pilots responsible for the accident in their report. However, terming these claims as misleading, the government has said that the investigation process is still ongoing and one should wait for the official conclusion.
The Air India plane crashed just minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad on June 12. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said in Sangli on Saturday that it would not be appropriate to make any comments before the final investigation report comes out.
It is noteworthy that last year on June 12, an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft took off from Ahmedabad for London Gatwick, but immediately after take-off, it met with a terrible accident. The plane crashed into the hostel block of B.J. Medical College located near the airport. A total of 297 people lost their lives in this biggest plane crash of the year 2025, including 241 passengers and many others present in the hostel premises and nearby areas.
Regarding this horrific plane crash, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) clarified on Thursday that the investigation process is still ongoing and the agency has not reached a final conclusion. The AAIB rejected reports circulating in the media claiming that the investigation was complete. The agency described such reports as ‘incorrect and based on speculation’.
In its preliminary investigation report released last year, the AAIB noted that the aircraft’s fuel control switches were found off just before the accident. These switches control the fuel supply to the engine. If these are turned off, fuel stops reaching the engine, which can cause the engine to stop working. However, the agency also clarified that the situation of the entire matter will become clear only after a detailed investigation and final report.
