British Columbia (Canada): At least 10 people have lost their lives, while 24 others have been injured in a shooting incident at a school in Tumbler Ridge, Canada. All the injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. According to a CTV News report, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Staff Sergeant Chris Clark confirmed this incident in a text message sent to ‘The Canadian Press’.
Suspected attacker also dead
According to the police, a total of 10 people died in the shooting that took place on Tuesday afternoon at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, including a suspected attacker. Treatment is ongoing for about two dozen injured people.
Tumbler Ridge RCMP stated that information about an active shooter at the school was received at approximately 1:20 PM. As part of the initial action, the police team immediately entered the school premises and started searching for the threat. During the search operation, officers found several injured and dead people.
According to the police statement, a suspect was found dead inside the school, whose injuries appear to be self-inflicted. The bodies of six other people were recovered from the school premises, while one victim died while being taken to the hospital.
Two injured sent to hospital via air ambulance
According to the police, two critically injured people were transported from the school to the hospital via air ambulance. All other students and staff have been safely evacuated. Officials said that the process of reuniting families with their children is underway in coordination with the school administration.
During the investigation, police found the bodies of two more people in a house connected to the incident. As a precaution, residents of the area were advised to stay indoors until about 5:45 PM, which was later lifted.
Police have clarified that currently there is no threat to any other suspect or the general public. This incident occurred in the small town of Tumbler Ridge in north-eastern British Columbia, where a lockdown was immediately implemented at the school. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
