After a disappointing performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup, strict action has been taken against the Pakistan cricket team. Under the captaincy of Salman Agha, the team could not advance beyond the Super-8 stage, due to which the players are paying a heavy price. According to reports, a fine of 50 lakh rupees has been imposed on every player of the team for poor performance.
The tournament equations also went against Pakistan. Last Saturday, the team needed to win against Sri Lanka by a margin of at least 65 runs or more, so that its net run-rate could be better than New Zealand’s. Pakistan won the match, but the winning margin was only 5 runs. Because of this, the net run-rate could not improve, and the team had to exit the tournament.
Pakistani Players Face the Wrath
According to media reports, financial action has been taken against the players of the Pakistan team after their poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2026. A report in the Express Tribune, citing PCB sources, claimed that a fine of 50-50 lakh rupees has been imposed on every player. It is being said that this decision was agreed upon immediately after the defeat against India. In the match played on February 15, Team India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs. However, no official statement has been released by the Pakistan Cricket Board so far.
Pakistan’s position in the tournament further weakened due to net run-rate. Last Saturday, the team needed to win against Sri Lanka by at least 65 runs to improve its net run-rate. Pakistan won the match, but the margin was only 5 runs. Due to this, the net run-rate did not improve sufficiently, and the team had to exit the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan’s Campaign Fizzled Out
Throughout the tournament, Pakistan played 7 matches, winning 4 of them. Its victories came against Namibia, USA, Netherlands, and Sri Lanka, but even in these matches, the team faced tough competition. Especially the matches against Netherlands and Sri Lanka remained exciting until the last moments, and Pakistan barely managed to secure victories.
Conversely, when facing stronger teams, the picture changed. Pakistan suffered defeats against major teams like India and England, which made its path to the semi-finals even more difficult. Overall, the team’s performance could not live up to expectations, and the campaign ended in disappointment.
