Raj Kundra, who has been facing legal action for several days in the Bitcoin scam case, has received significant relief. A special PMLA court in Mumbai has granted him bail. Raj Kundra was accused of involvement in ‘proceeds of crime’ worth approximately 150 crore rupees. Information about his bail was shared by his lawyer, Prashant Patil.
What is the whole matter?
This case is related to FIRs filed in 2018 at Nigdi and Nanded police stations in Pune. It is alleged that Amit Bhardwaj, promoter of ‘Variable Tech Private Limited’ and ‘GainBitcoin’ (gainbitcoin.com), defrauded investors of crores of rupees by luring them with high returns in the name of Bitcoin mining.
During the investigation, Raj Kundra’s name also came up in this case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleged that he received 285 Bitcoins from the main accused, Amit Bhardwaj. The current estimated value of these Bitcoins is stated to be approximately 150.47 crore rupees.
Dubai-based businessman’s name also surfaced
Dubai-based businessman Rajesh Satija was also issued a summons in this case. The court had directed both accused to appear on January 19.
In September 2025, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a supplementary charge sheet in the special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the registered case, naming Raj Kundra and Rajesh Satija as accused.
Raj Kundra accused of non-cooperation
During the investigation, Raj Kundra was also accused of allegedly refusing to share information about the ‘wallet address’ of the related Bitcoins. The agency stated that this affected the investigation process.
Additionally, the enforcement agency claimed that properties were transacted at prices significantly lower than market value to legitimize the alleged crime proceeds. The investigation also alleged that his wife had a role in these transactions.
Who is Raj Kundra?
Raj Kundra is a businessman and is also known as the husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. He has been involved in various business sectors and has recently become active in the entertainment industry, especially the Punjabi film industry.
A few years ago, he was allegedly arrested in a case related to adult film production and was also in judicial custody. Later, he made the film UT69 based on his jail experience, attempting to depict that phase of his life.
