Actor Rajpal Yadav was lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a check bounce case related to the film ‘Ata Pata Laapata’, released in 2012. His bail plea was heard on February 16, wherein the court granted him relief and approved the bail. The Delhi High Court has allowed him to attend his niece’s wedding. According to the court order, Rajpal Yadav has been granted interim bail until March 18.
During the hearing on interim bail, the Delhi High Court gave strict instructions to Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer, stating that a demand draft of Rs 1.5 crore in the name of the respondent must be deposited by 3 PM. The court clarified that release would only be possible if the DD was deposited within the stipulated time limit; otherwise, the matter would be heard again the next morning. Later, Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer informed the court that the demand draft of Rs 1.5 crore had been deposited. Following this, he received interim permission to go to Shahjahanpur to attend his niece’s wedding. However, as a condition, the court also directed him to deposit his passport. The next hearing of the case will now be on March 18.
Bail was rejected on February 12
Prior to this, in the hearing held on February 12, the Delhi High Court had refused to grant relief to Rajpal Yadav. Making a strong observation, the court stated that while they might have personal sympathy, no one is above the law. The court also noted that despite the previous order, he did not surrender on time and surrendered only after receiving further instructions. During the hearing, Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer had demanded interim bail to attend his elder brother’s daughter’s wedding.
