Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri’s action-drama film is ready for release. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, this movie is set to hit theaters a day from now. But the advance booking figures revealed before the release might increase worry for the makers.
Under the pre-sales that started on February 10, only 50,648 tickets have been sold so far for 8,595 shows across the country. Looking at the current trend, it is believed in trade circles that the film’s opening could be slower than expected.
Strong start for the film in advance booking
According to the latest report from Sacnilk, the film has collected ₹1.19 crore from advance booking so far. If the earnings from blocked seats are also included, its potential gross collection reaches approximately ₹3.27 crore.
Live tracking data shows that over 50,648 tickets for ‘Oh Romeo’ have been sold nationwide even before its release. The film is being released on a large scale with 8,595 shows in 2D Hindi format.
Talking about states, Gujarat is leading in terms of advance booking, where earnings of about ₹12.18 lakh have been recorded. Since the film is hitting theaters on Valentine’s weekend, trade experts expect better performance at the box office in the initial days.
Ticket sales so far
The effect of the Valentine’s Day atmosphere can be clearly seen, especially in urban areas, where romantic films usually get a better response. Trade experts say that if the film crosses the ₹2.50 crore mark by 9 PM on Thursday, it could give tough competition to the opening of Shahid Kapoor’s previous film ‘Deva’.
Statistics from online ticketing platforms are also giving encouraging signals. About 20,000 tickets for ‘Oh Romeo’ have been sold on BookMyShow (BMS) so far. Looking at current trends, while pre-sales for big films like ‘Baaghi 4’ and ‘Housefull 5’ are below 1 lakh tickets, ‘Oh Romeo’ holds its place at the 15th spot on the pre-sale leaderboard.
Booking may see a surge
Looking at past data from Sacnilk, an increase of 40 to 50 percent is seen in the advance booking of romantic thriller films between the evening of February 13 and February 14. In such a scenario, the possibility of a last-minute surge in the collection of ‘Oh Romeo’ is being expressed.
The duo of Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj has delivered several hit films in the past, leading to significant excitement among the audience about this project. Industry trends suggest that in the case of stylish thriller films, the number of screens and late-night shows are increased just before release upon receiving positive buzz and initial reviews.
If ‘Oh Romeo’ performs strongly on the opening day, its shows in theaters may be increased. The estimated budget of the film is reported to be around ₹75 to ₹80 crore.
What is the premise of the story?
The film’s story is said to be inspired by Hussain Zaidi’s famous book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. Its screenplay is based on true events related to the Mumbai underworld, depicting the alliance with Sapna Didi in the context of the conspiracy to kill Dawood Ibrahim and gangster Hussain Ustara.
Talking about the star cast, along with Shahid Kapoor, actors like Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, and Vikrant Massey will be seen in important roles in the film.
This film is releasing in theaters on February 13. The audience has high expectations from it, especially because Vishal Bhardwaj is taking over the directorial reins after a long time. This is his third collaboration with Shahid Kapoor, and the duo has garnered appreciation in the past as well.
