Stock Market Sluggish, Sensex Closes at 84,233; Nifty Rises Slightly, Select Stocks Strong

On Wednesday, the domestic stock market ultimately closed at a nearly flat level amidst volatility. The BSE Sensex slipped 40.28 points to settle at 84,233.64. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed at 25,953.85 with a slight gain of 18.7 points.

In the final phase of trading, buying was seen in shares like Eicher Motors, Apollo Hospitals, Max Healthcare, SBI, and Maruti Suzuki on the Nifty, which supported the market. Conversely, declines were recorded in Coal India, TCS, HCL Technologies, Eternal, and Infosys. Due to weakness in IT stocks, pressure remained on this sector.

Midcap and Smallcap indices closed at nearly flat levels at the end of the day, showing a mixed trend in the market. Looking at sectoral indices, the Auto sector showed the most growth, with the Auto index jumping 1.3%. The PSU Bank index recorded a gain of about 1%, while the Consumer Durables index strengthened by 0.6%.

On the other hand, pressure remained on the IT sector, and the IT index closed down 1.7%.

How did other Sensex stocks start on Wednesday?

On the third trading day of the week, many giant shares of the Sensex opened with gains. Eternal saw a rise of 0.86%, while Mahindra & Mahindra climbed 0.81%. Tech Mahindra strengthened by 0.54% and State Bank of India by 0.52%. HCL Tech opened 0.35% higher, and NTPC and Kotak Mahindra Bank opened 0.33-0.33% higher.

Gains of 0.32% were recorded in TCS and 0.26% in Tata Steel and Bajaj Finserv. Infosys was up 0.24%, and ICICI Bank and Asian Paints were up 0.19-0.19%. Apart from this, Maruti Suzuki opened with slight strength of 0.14%, Reliance Industries 0.08%, Indigo and Bajaj Finance 0.06-0.06%, ITC 0.05%, Sun Pharma 0.04%, and L&T 0.02%.

Meanwhile, pressure was also seen in some stocks. UltraTech Cement slipped 0.26%, while HDFC Bank opened 0.24% lower. Adani Ports was weak by 0.23%, Trent by 0.22%, and Bharti Airtel by 0.20%. Trading started with a decline of 0.11% in Hindustan Unilever, 0.08% in PowerGrid, and 0.07% in Axis Bank.

37 out of 50 Nifty shares opened in the green

The market started with a positive trend on Wednesday. Shares of 21 out of 30 Sensex companies opened in the green with gains, while 9 shares were seen starting trading in the red.

Similarly, a trend of strength was observed in Nifty 50 as well. Shares of 37 out of 50 companies of the index opened with gains, while 13 shares remained in the red with declines.

Among Sensex shares, Titan opened with the highest gain of 2.26%. Meanwhile, the maximum decline of 0.49% was recorded in BEL, making it the weakest stock at the start of the day.
