Air India Flight to London Faces Technical Issue, Returns to Delhi from Saudi Arabia

New Delhi: Air India flight AI 111, en route to London, returned to Delhi on Thursday afternoon. The flight had to return due to a technical snag after being airborne for approximately seven hours. According to Flightradar data, the A350 aircraft took a U-turn while flying in Saudi Arabian airspace on its way to Heathrow Airport. This route change is also reportedly influenced by the recent circumstances arising from the Iran war.

Air India Flight Returns to Delhi After Seven Hours

Air India flight AI 111, bound for London, took off from Delhi at 6:13 AM on Thursday and returned to Delhi around 1:20 PM. According to Flightradar data, the aircraft covered a distance of approximately 3,300 kilometers before deciding to turn back mid-air. Typically, the journey from Saudi Arabia to London takes 6-7 hours.

This flight was operated by an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. An Air India spokesperson stated that upon receiving indications of a potential technical issue during the flight, the decision was made to return to Delhi, prioritizing safety. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi Airport, and a thorough technical inspection is being conducted in accordance with Air India’s high safety standards, which may take some time.

Air India Flight Returned to Delhi After Strange Noises Heard in Saudi Airspace

According to information received, when Air India flight AI 111, en route to London, was passing through Saudi Arabian airspace, strange noises were heard inside the aircraft. Prioritizing passenger safety, the crew immediately decided to return to Delhi. The airline spokesperson expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and stated that Air India is promptly arranging all necessary provisions for their onward journey.

Technical Snags Have Occurred Before

This is not the first time a technical issue has occurred in an Air India aircraft. Earlier this month, on March 15, a similar problem arose on a flight from New York to Delhi. On that occasion, the aircraft was diverted to Shannon Airport in Ireland for safety reasons.
