The Supreme Court has issued important instructions while passing its order in the West Bengal SIR (Special Intensive Revision) case. The Court exercised its special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution and directed the Election Commission (ECI) to implement the decisions of the Appellate Tribunal. Now the question is, who will get the right to vote after this decision—let’s understand.
Who will get the right to vote?
The Supreme Court has clearly stated in its order that those whose appeals are accepted by the Appellate Tribunal will be able to vote on April 23. In addition, those whose appeals are decided by April 21 or April 27 will also get the right to vote.
What instructions were given to the ECI?
The court has directed the Election Commission (ECI) to issue a supplementary revised voter list including the names of all such eligible people so that they can vote.
Status of pending appeals clarified
The Supreme Court also clarified that merely having a pending appeal will not give anyone the right to vote. Until a final decision is reached on the appeal, the person concerned will not be able to vote.
