After Losing to Punjab, Chennai Super Kings Registered a Shameful Record

In IPL 2026, Punjab Kings registered their second consecutive win by defeating Chennai Super Kings and also secured the top position in the points table. The credit for Punjab’s victory in this high-scoring encounter played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium goes to the brilliant innings of captain Shreyas Iyer and young batsman Priyansh Arya. Priyansh Arya gave the team a splendid start by scoring 39 runs off just 11 balls, while captain Iyer took charge, scored a half-century, and led Punjab to a 5-wicket victory.

In this match, Chennai Super Kings scored more than 200 runs but still faced defeat. This is only the second time since IPL 2022 that CSK has lost its opening two matches in a season. Batting first, CSK scored 209 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs, but in reply, Punjab Kings achieved the target of 210 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the 19th over itself.

Interestingly, this was the sixth time CSK scored 200+ against Punjab Kings. In this regard, they are jointly leading with Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, out of these 6 matches, CSK lost 5 times, while they only won in the first IPL encounter of 2008. Notably, this is the 5th time CSK has lost a match against Punjab Kings despite scoring 200+, setting the biggest record in T20 cricket for losing after scoring 200+ against a single team. Previously, this record was held by West Indies, who did so four times against Australia.

This match not only showed the difference between win and loss but also became special in terms of records and statistics. Punjab Kings maintained their excellent form, while this defeat left many questions for Chennai Super Kings. After losing two consecutive matches, CSK is now at the bottom of the points table.
