Aditya Dhar’s film Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Dhurandhar 2) is now very close to release, and a tremendous craze for it is being seen across the country. Advance booking figures seem to be in favor of this film, with over 10 lakh tickets already sold, indicating a big opening.
Given the huge public demand, many cinemas have added late-night and midnight shows. As a result, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has joined the select films whose shows will run for almost 24 hours in many cities. The kind of enthusiasm seen for the film clearly indicates that it can create a big bang at the box office.
Not only this, the film has also set a big record by replacing Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which had been running for 30 years at Mumbai’s famous Maratha Mandir. This achievement clearly reflects the film’s popularity and audience craze.
According to recent reports, ‘Dhurandhar 2’s advance booking has reached close to 15 lakh tickets, with a large number for ‘paid preview’ shows. Due to its long duration of about 4 hours, managing shows has become challenging for theatre owners, as only a limited number of shows can be screened on one screen.
However, given the huge audience demand, many cinemas have added late-night and midnight shows. Theaters like PVR Cinemas Chakala and MovieMax Cinemas Sion have decided to start shows from 1:50 AM on weekends, while post-midnight shows are also being started in Ahmedabad and other cities. Thus, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has now joined the list of films running almost 24 hours in many parts of the country.
Tradition Changed at Maratha Mandir
The craze for ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has grown so much that Mumbai’s prestigious Maratha Mandir also had to change its decades-old tradition. The slot for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which had been running at 11:30 AM for the past three decades, has now been changed to accommodate Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Under this change, DDLJ has now been shifted to another morning slot, which reflects the tremendous response the film is receiving.
Record After Record in Advance Booking
The advance booking for this Ranveer Singh-starrer film is continuously setting new records. From ‘paid previews’ alone, the film has already earned around 35 crore rupees, surpassing the 25 crore rupees record of Pawan Kalyan’s film OG.
From the first day’s advance booking alone, the film’s gross collection in India has reached approximately 21 crore rupees. The film has also performed brilliantly in the international market. By earning 5 million dollars from pre-sales in North America, it has become the first Indian film to do so. Globally, ‘Dhurandhar 2’s advance booking has crossed the 125 crore rupees mark, further strengthening expectations of a big box office success.
Star Cast and Box Office Estimates
Directed by Aditya Dhar, this spy-thriller will feature Ranveer Singh alongside actors like R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi in pivotal roles. Akshaye Khanna, who played the character of ‘Rahman Dakait’ in the first part, might appear in a cameo role this time.
This film is set to release in cinemas on March 19. Its first part, ‘Dhurandhar’, has already grossed around 1300 crore rupees worldwide and is still running in some cinemas.
Trade experts believe that ‘Dhurandhar 2’ can create new history at the box office. It is estimated that the film could cross the 2000 crore rupees mark and even surpass Aamir Khan’s film Dangal’s record.
