New Delhi: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being considered the power behind the fourth industrial revolution today. Experts believe that in the coming years, the direction of the global economy, national security, and social structure will largely depend on how and how responsibly AI is used.
In this backdrop, the ‘India AI Impact Expo 2026’ is being organized at Bharat Mandapam in the capital Delhi from February 16 to 20. It is being described as the largest AI conference in the Global South. The special aspect is that for the first time, an international AI event of this scale is taking place in a South Asian country.
Why is this program important for India and what impact could it have on the global scenario; we will discuss these questions in detail in this article.
Why is it important for India?
India is currently among the world’s fastest-growing major economies. In such a scenario, its active participation and leadership in the AI Impact Summit is significant in many ways. There are some solid strategic reasons behind this.
Strengthening the voice of the Global South
India is establishing itself as the voice of the ‘Global South’, i.e., developing nations. It clearly believes that the benefits of Artificial Intelligence should not be limited to developed and wealthy countries only. Through this platform, India wants to send the message that AI technology should be affordable, accessible, and inclusive for all countries. Simultaneously, global AI policies should be framed keeping in mind the needs and challenges of developing nations so that digital inequality does not increase further.
The Power of Digital Public Infrastructure
Just as initiatives like UPI and Aadhaar created a new wave of digital transformation in the country, similarly, high expectations are now attached to the ‘IndiaAI’ mission. During the AI Impact Summit, India presented its “AI for All” vision, aimed at increasing the use of Artificial Intelligence in key sectors like agriculture, health, and education. The government’s goal is that AI should not remain limited to the tech sector only, but become a medium to improve the lives of common citizens.
India as a Workforce and Talent Hub
India is counted among the leading countries in the world in terms of the number of trained engineers in the AI sector. On the strength of this robust human resource, India wants to attract global companies. Through this conference, foreign companies are being encouraged to establish their ‘AI Centers of Excellence’ here, so that innovation is promoted and new employment opportunities are created on a large scale.
