Big Loss for CSK in Mid-IPL, Star Batsman Ruled Out of the Season

Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major blow in the middle of IPL 2026. The team’s rising young batsman, Ayush Mhatre, has now been ruled out for the entire season. The franchise confirmed the news officially, stating that his injury is serious, due to which he will not be able to participate in any further matches.

This loss is considered even more significant for the already struggling Chennai team. In the 6 matches played so far, the team has managed only 2 wins while suffering 4 defeats. Consequently, the team’s position in the points table does not look strong.

The franchise informed in its official statement that Ayush Mhatre suffered a left hamstring injury while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. After examination by the medical team, it was found that it would take about 6 to 8 weeks for him to recover from this injury. For this reason, he has had to be ruled out of the entire tournament, which is a major blow for the team.

Ayush Mhatre’s performance this season for Chennai Super Kings had been quite impressive. He played 6 league matches for the team and scored a total of 201 runs, batting in every match. His average was 33.50, while his strike rate was 177.87, reflecting his aggressive batting style. During this period, two half-centuries also came from his bat, with his highest score being 73 runs. Notably, he was the team’s highest run-scorer so far. Behind him, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson is in second place with 192 runs.

Looking at his IPL career, Ayush Mhatre made his debut in this league in 2025 and has been a part of Chennai Super Kings ever since. So far, he has played a total of 13 matches, scoring 441 runs in 13 innings. During this time, his average has been 33.92 and his strike rate 183.75, showcasing his potential as a young batsman. He has scored three half-centuries so far, with a highest score of 94 runs. His performance had made him a key player for the team; thus, his exit due to injury is a major blow for Chennai.
