Big Relief Amidst Heatwave: Telangana School Summer Holidays to Start from April 24, Fun for Kids!

Hyderabad| The Telangana School Education Department has provided major relief to lakhs of school students in the state by announcing the official summer vacation schedule for the academic year 2025–26. In view of the increasing heat and the threat of heatwaves, a decision has been taken for a 50-day long holiday this year. According to the order issued by the department, all government, aided, and private schools in the state will be closed from April 24, 2026.

Academic Calendar and Key Dates

According to the School Education Department, the last working day of the current academic session will be April 23 (Thursday). Holidays will begin from the next day, i.e., April 24, and will continue until June 11. After this long interval of about two months, all schools will reopen for the new academic year 2026-27 on June 12, 2026 (Friday).

A total of 230 working days have been recorded in this year’s academic calendar, which the Education Department has termed a significant achievement for ensuring quality education.

Results and Teacher-Parent Meeting (PTM)

The last working day, i.e., April 23, will be extremely important for students and parents. The results of the S.A.-II (Summative Assessment) examinations will be announced in schools on this day. The Education Department has instructed all schools to compulsorily organize a Teacher-Parent Meeting (PTM) on the same day.

The purpose of this meeting is not only to hand over the students’ report cards but also to discuss the student’s year-round progress, weaknesses, and future plans between teachers and parents. Officials believe that such communication right before the holidays helps prepare students mentally for the next session.

Strict Instructions for Teachers and Administration

Along with the announcement of the holidays, the Director of School Education has also issued some strict guidelines to maintain administrative smoothness. The department clarified that teachers currently deployed in other schools or administrative tasks on an ‘on duty’ (OD) basis will not be relieved before April 23.

The main reason for this is to ensure that the compilation of exam results, preparation of report cards, and successful organization of the PTM can be completed without any hindrance. The department has also asked to ensure that school records and data are securely updated before the holidays.

Extreme Heat and Health Concerns

Temperatures in Telangana often cross 40 degrees Celsius during April and May. In such a situation, this 50-day vacation is considered essential keeping in mind the health of the children. Health experts have also welcomed this decision, as the risk of dehydration and heatstroke remains high among children due to the heatwave.

The Education Department has advised parents to protect children from the strong afternoon sun during the holidays and keep them engaged in creative activities. Many schools and local communities are also planning to organize summer camps and online workshops during this period.

Guidelines for Private Schools

Although this order applies to all schools in the state, the Education Department has clarified that some private schools may make minor changes to the opening date based on their internal programs. However, most major schools have agreed to follow the government calendar. Parents are requested to pay attention to messages sent by their children’s school management to avoid any confusion.
