For the West Bengal Assembly elections, Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has released its first list of candidates. In this list, the party has declared the names of candidates for a total of 12 seats.
Among the declared candidates, Imran Soakhi from Raghunathganj, Danish Aziz from Asansol North, Misbahul Islam Khan from Kandi, Rezaul Karim from Sujapur, and Advocate Mohammad Mustahid Haque from Mothabari have been given tickets.
Additionally, Haji Ansar Sheikh from Nalhati and Tasir Sheikh from Murarai have also been fielded by the party.
AIMIM’s Alliance with Humayun Kabir’s Party
AIMIM is contesting the elections in alliance with the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), a party formed by former Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir. The AIMIM-AJUP alliance is expected to impact the vote share in Muslim-majority seats. The upcoming election is primarily seen as a direct contest between the ruling TMC and BJP.
When are the West Bengal Elections?
Elections in West Bengal will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, and results will be declared on May 4. In West Bengal’s 294-seat assembly, a strong contest will be seen between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamata Banerjee and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2011.
In the first phase, elections will be held in Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, Birbhum, East and West Medinipur, Jalpaiguri, Malda, Murshidabad, North and South Dinajpur, West Bardhaman, Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Kalimpong. In the second phase, elections will be held in East Bardhaman, Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, and Kolkata.
